The cable also names a close collaborator of ex president Hipolito Mejia, Siquió Ng de la Rosa, and his brother, as linked to human trafficking.

The allegation surfaced Monday night from information given exclusively to the News Group SIN, in which then U.S. ambassador Hans Hertell met with Amarante to speak on "the topic of official corruption in the immigration organization," a meeting in which the former handed a list with the military involved in people trafficking.

The meeting was called to inform and to stress to Amarante the need for him to implement measures to fight corruption, especially in the Dominican ports of entry because "certain inspectors and people assigned politically (in Immigration) were preparing themselves to smuggle people towards the U.S. and Europe."

The only name which figures in the document is a "colonel Luna," assigned to the Las Americas Airport. It also notes that Amarante said that a brother of de la Rosa, ex Immigration director had allegedly proposed a human trafficking deal to a friend and said that "he wanted Ng and his brother to be prosecuted in the U.S."

"On the 5th of November the director of the Drug Affairs Section found out that colonel Luna and others, whose names had been provided by the ambassador, were dismissed the day before," the document’s final note states.
