DominicanToday.com - San Cristóbal retailers yesterday revealed their frustration with the large number of bogus $2,000 peso bills circulating in the city, where in just on day three forged bills were passed in a gas station located on the main avenue.
Colmados (groceries) and betting parlors also complain of being scammed by the forgers.
Fredy Pinales, owner of a hardware store, said to avoid suspicion, the counterfeiters go to the businesses and make purchases for almost the entire amount.
He said the problem has led many merchants to reject purchases using the denomination.
Other merchants who didn’t want their names used affirm that the forgers work in one of the many sprawling barrios of the city, located next to the Nigua river. |
