US, Dominicans sign deal on Medicare fraud assets, Victims got nothing!
The U.S. and Dominican Republic have signed an agreement to share millions of dollars in forfeited assets from a major Medicare fraud scheme.

Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday the two countries will share $7.5 million initially and could divide up to $30 million more in seized assets. The assets in the Dominican Republic include 20 real estate properties such as a water park, motel complexes and waterfront condominiums.

The fraud case in Miami involves brothers Carlos, Luis and Jose Benitez. They are accused of conspiring to defraud Medicare out of $80 million. The brothers were declared fugitives in 2008 and are believed by prosecutors to be in Cuba.

Holder is also visiting Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados in the Caribbean this week.

Dominican Watchdog Note: What this article don't mention is that many foreign investors in the Dominican Republic lost their off plan apartment in cases where the units were confiscated before being finished. They lost their deposits and payments when the Dominican government confiscated the building, beach or apartment project. Do not buy off plan projects in the Dominican Republic!!

I have yet not heard of one single case where the Dominican government compensated the small foreign investor who lost their hard earned money saved for a holiday home in the DR due to international money laundering organizations and corrupt government officials - There is no way to verify if the development is a $20M, $50M or $100 Million dollar money laundering operation!!
