U.S. citizen found dead in Puerto Plata, Another in Cabarete plus one stabbed
DominicanToday.com -  An Italian-American businessman identified as Anthony Vacile, 51, was found hanged around 5am Tuesday, inside his apartment in a building of the city, local media report. The police said Vacile was found in his residence in the condo La Pescaderia Cachita. The Puerto Plata regional command said it investigates the case because the foreigner was found with his hands tied and his mouth gagged.

Anthony Vasile, 51, who for a time lived in Graniteville and Tottenville, died Dec. 9 in Puerto Plata, authorities said.

Police are conducting a murder investigation into the death of Vasile, who most recently lived in Old Bridge, N.J. The man who worked in sales in the seafood industry in the Dominican Republic was found hanged inside his apartment where he stayed.

Susan Vasile said her husband of 26 years shuttled back and forth between his home in Old Bridge and his business in the Dominican Republic. The police said Vasile was found in his residence in the condo La Pescaderia Cachita, according to Dominican Today.

The Puerto Plata regional command said it is investigating the case because the victim was found with his hands tied and his mouth gagged, Dominican Today said.

Vasile, a father of two children, grew up in Brooklyn where he attended Most Precious Blood R.C. Church. He moved with his wife to Graniteville in about 1987 and to Tottenville about three years later. The family relocated to New Jersey in 1995, first in Morganville and then in Old Bridge.

The U.S. State Department gives a long list of travel and safety warnings and advice for Americans planning to visit the Dominican Republic.

"Foreign tourists are often considered attractive targets for criminal activity and you should maintain a low profile to avoid becoming a victim of violence or crime," the web site warns. 

The state department warns that criminals may misrepresent themselves in an effort to gain access to homes or hotel rooms and that robberies of homes sometimes have resulted in deaths.
