Two Patients with Cholera Symptoms Die in Dominican Republic
(Prensa Latina) Two Dominicans with symptoms similar to cholera died in the western province of Santiago, medical sources reported as the country is carrying out a campaign against several diseases.

According to a spokesperson for the Jose Maria Cabral Hospital, the two patients who died arrived at the health center with a symptom of severe diarrhea.

The first one, Julio de los Santos, was 66 years old and was from the province of Espaillat, while the other, Oscar Antonio Lora, was 64 and lived in Santiago.

Since the beginning of the cholera epidemic in Haiti in November 2010, about 26,712 Dominicans have been affected by the disease, and 169 deaths have been confirmed, according to statistics from the Ministry of Public Health, which has launched a campaign to eradicate dengue fever, leptospirosis, cholera and other diseases, with the objective of preventing their dissemination.
