Tropical wave pounds Dominican Republic’s south coast, one dead, hundreds evacuated One dead, a teenage girl missing and 750 people evacuated as the downpours from a second tropical wave within three days, drenching most of the country.

Argelis Diaz, 21, drowned when she tried to rescue a 13 year old girl identified only as Vicky, dragged by the torrent of the stream Lebrón Arroyo, in the sector New Amanecer located 18 kilometers north on the Duarte highway.

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported 259 houses flooded and several severely damaged by the strong winds in western San Juan province.

The COE maintains a flash flood alert for most of the country’s Caribbean coast as the wave moves westward.
