Via Prensa Latina: Casi 53 mil afectados por fiebre chikungunya en Dominicana.[Almost  53,000 affected by chikungunya in Dominican Republic] Excerpt, with my translation: 

El número de personas afectadas por la fiebre chikungunya en República Dominicana asciende hasta hoy a 52 mil 976, confirmó el ministro de Salud Pública, Freddy Hidalgo. 
The number of persons affected by chikungunya fever in the Dominican Republic has risen to 52,976, Health Minister Freddy Hidalgo has confirmed.
Más de la mitad de esa cifra pertenece a la sureña provincia de San Cristóbal, la más próxima al occidente de esta capital y donde se confirmó el brote del mal en abril anterior. 
Over half of them are in the southern province of San Cristóbal, just to the west of the capital and where the outbreak was confirmed in April.
Citado por reportes de prensa, Hidalgo manifestó que actualmente se investiga la sospechosa muerte de una paciente víctima de la dolencia poco tiempo atrás. 
As quoted in press reports, Hidalgo said the recent suspicious death of a chikungunya patient is currently under investigation.
Por otra parte, subrayó que continuarán las movilizaciones sociales con el fin de orientar acciones a seguir en la lucha contra la chikungunya.
He also emphasized that social mobilization will continue to organize actions in the struggle against chikungunya.

Dominican Republic: Doctors struggle against chikungunya

Los médicos en los hospitales no dan abasto para atender a los pacientes que llegan con fiebre alta, dolores de cabeza y en las articulaciones, vómito, erupciones en la piel, causadas por el virus de chikungunya.
Doctors in the hospital can't cope with the patients arriving with high fever, headaches, joint pain, vomiting, and skin eruptions, all caused by the chikungunya virus.
Los afectados por la enfermedad desbordan la capacidad de las emergencias en los centros de salud del Estado, donde sólo ayer en el hospital Luis Eduardo Aybar (Morgan), se atendieron 406 personas afectadas por el virus. 
Those affected by the disease are overflowing the capacity of the emergency departments of the state health centres; yesterday in the Luis Eduardo Aybar (Morgan) Hospital alone treated 406 patients with the virus.
Médicos del área de consulta de la unidad de emergencia del Morgan, informaron que están exhaustos porque están trabajando sin descanso, ya que el personal de servicio en esa área es insuficiente para atender la gran demanda de pacientes afectados de chikungunya. 
Doctors in the emergency unit of the Morgan said they are exhausted because they're working without rest because the service personnel in their department aren't enough to deal with the great demand from chikungunya patients.
El doctor Joaquín Calcaño Bretón, delegado del Colegio Médico Dominicano (CMD), en el hospital Luis Eduardo Aybar, deploró que los médicos tengan que presionar para que les solucionen los problemas a los centros de salud, cuando es responsabilidad del Ministerio.
Dr. Joaquín Calcaño Bretón, delegate of the Dominican Medical College in the Luis Eduardo Aybar Hospital, deplored the fact that doctors are pressed to solve the problems in the health centres when it's the responsibility of the Ministry.
