Portuguese woman (70) ending Dominican holiday in Punta Cana jail

theportugalnews.com - A 70-year-old Portuguese woman from Albufeira who was arrested at Punta Cana airport on suspicion of drug smuggling and held in custody on the island for 12 days, returned home earlier this week after being released without charge.

A Public Prosecutor from the Dominican Republic said there was no evidence that incriminated Salomé Santos, who from the beginning maintained that the luggage in which 50 kilos of cocaine was found, was not hers. While the prosecutor did not admit that the authorities had made a mistake, he did apologise.
