Police arrest 'fake colonel' in Sosua treatening foreign investor
DominicanToday.com - The National Police arrested a man dressed in police uniform who posed as a colonel to con Dominicans and foreigners by threatening them for a range of infractions, saying they would be deported. The man was named as Marcelino Díaz Bautista, who was in possession of an unlicensed revolver.

Díaz Bautista was arrested in the community of Loma Mirona, at a building project directed by Belgian citizen Ulrich Herpe, 56.

The police informed that the fake colonel had tried to extort RD$125,000 by threatening to deport several Haitian laborers on the grounds that they didn’t have passports or work permits. He also threatened Van Herpe with deportation, saying there was an international arrest warrant against him.

Díaz is believed to have extorted money from several builders for not having the corresponding permits.

The police are calling on other victims of extortion to report to the authorities and identify the man who posed as a police colonel.

Dominican Watchdog Note | This is an interesting case because everybody knows the Dominican police is corrupt, but they do not allow anybody else to take part in their illegal activities!!!!
