DomininicanToday.com - Economy minister Temístocles Montas on Sunday announced that he will propose to president Fernandez to cancel the lease contracts in Jarabacoa’s mountain resort “Ercilia Pepín,” where government officials, military officers and journalists figure in the scandal.
Interviewed on Rahintel, the official said the alleged leases have to be stricken, because they contradicts the presidential Decree declares 2011 ‘Year of transparency’. “We’re only wait for the President to explain to him that it cannot proceed, that those contracts must be voided because that questions his decree declaring this year as the Year of Transparency, as the year of strengthening of institutionalism.”
The official said would be to throw overboard everything what the Government has been doing with the multilateral entities in the initiative to fight corruption, so we understand the need to halt it and cancel them (the leases).
Scandal unleashed
Last week the SIN news program reported that officials, politicians, senior military officers and journalists obtained one and even more cabins in the mountain resort, including Chamber of Deputies president Abel Martinez, and the senators Amable Aristy and Julio Cesar Valentin, though the latter denied being involved. |
