We traveled to many countries, but this time we had the worst experience because this was the worst hotel that we ever stayed at. Hotel Riu Palace Macao in Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) was not clean enough; the rooms are very old with leaking ceilings and in general are smoking or with bad odor; pool often was dirty with plastic cups inside in the morning but most of my concerns were the bed bugs (cimex lectularius) in mattresses which suck blood from capillaries of your body. I am in the medical profession, so I know about those parasites. Many people have been bitten by those bugs but they even do not realize that those bites are not from mosquitos, but from cimex. In fact, I have been bitten by those bugs all around my body. My husband and I caught few of those bugs in the glass and showed to the manager, so he upgraded our room and gave me an ointment to relieve itching. He wasn't even surprised. During our stay at Palace Macao, our rooms had to be changed four times; however, it didn’t help since those bugs, as we learned, are in all mattresses. I have swelling, redness and itching around areas where I was bitten and now I am concerned about my overall health since those bugs can carry and spread diseases. After our vacation I went to the doctor and now I am receiving treatment. I do not recommend staying at this hotel in order to save your health.
