Ex-Wife of the "Pablo Escobar of the Caribbean" Surrenders Herself to Police

The ex-wife of a reputed drug kingpin known as the "Pablo Escobar of the Caribbean" is back in the Dominican Republic to face accusations she laundered money for her former husband's alleged trafficking network, an official said Sunday.

Public prosecutor Alejandro Moscoso said five Spanish agents escorted Leavy Nin Batista, 33, from Madrid to the Las Americas International Airport in the Dominican capital late Saturday.

Moscoso told reporters Sunday that it took months of negotiations to get the fugitive back to the Dominican Republic. Batista allegedly fled to Europe in 2009 with a fraudulent passport shortly after her ex-husband evaded a raid by Dominican anti-drug agents.

Batista's former husband is José Figueroa Agosto, the so-called "Pablo Escobar of the Caribbean," who was captured last year in Puerto Rico. He is suspected of shipping Colombian cocaine to the U.S. mainland through Puerto Rico.

He spent about decade on the run and is now jailed in the Dominican Republic(Dominican Watchdog note> Mistake by journalist, he is jailed in Puerto Rico)

Figueroa, also known as "Junior Capsula," had escaped prison in his native Puerto Rico and was the Dominican Republic's most wanted man for a decade.

He pulled off several narrow escapes and taunted police over the radio. Like Escobar, the 1980s drug kingpin of Colombia, Figueroa lived large, owning a fleet of luxury cars and a ranch with a private zoo.

Batista joins four other women, among them two lovers of Figueroa, accused of money laundering and other crimes.

Dominican Watchdog Note: So now when all the small fish are in prison, where is the list of Dominican generals and TOP government officials protecting this drug network for 10 years? Is none of them going to jail for the millions of dollars they took to ensure the most wanted drug dealer stayed in business and made them all fat?
