A man who police arrested and charged for possession of a gun and a silencer on last Saturday has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison and will remain there at least until his trial on August 18.
The native of the Dominican Republic, Ramon Valezquez could not be granted bail when he appeared before Magistrate Keith Thom. He can, by law, only attain bail from a High Court judge.
The 39 year old is yet to enter a plea to the two charges and when he is called upon to do so a Spanish translator would have to be present in court.
Attorney Cosbert Cumberbatch has been retained as the man’s advocate.
Police patrolling the Skerritts Pasture area early last Saturday found the defendant walking the street and searched him.
The investigators confiscated the unlicensed .380 Taurus gun and silencer that Valezquez possessed. He was taken him into custody where he was interrogated and asked to give a statement following which he was charged.
