Dominican Republic faces new crime – Minors from Haiti becoming prostitutes to make living
The number of Haitian minors working as prostitutes in Boca Chica has increased, as reported in the Miami Herald and Nuevo Herald. Residents of Boca Chica confirmed this in interviews with investigative TV show, El Informe de Alicia Ortega.
As reported, the Haitian prostitutes have displaced their Dominican counterparts. As reported in Hoy, services range from RD$1,000 to RD$3,000 and some Haitian minors accept to have sex with up to three men at once for RD$2,000.
A group of prostitutes complained that agents of the Touristic Police (Politur) extort them. They say they have to pay RD$500 per night to go about their work. A public relations spokesman for Politur denied the accusations. He said the security corps is in charge of stopping the women from harassing tourists.
