Dominican Republic Exposes New Case of Human Trafficking - Dominican Republic authorities are holding Nancy Josefina Matos Contreras in preventive custody accused of extorting US$14,238 from four women in exchange for work contracts in Beirut, Lebanon.

The victims -Rosa Iris de la Cruz, 26, Luz Maria Serra Hernandez, 25, Cristina Polanco de la Cruz, 28, and Alexandra de los Santos Ramirez- paid Nancy Josefina Matos Contreras, then headed for Beirut where a man named Salam took them to Beirut Star Hotel where they were robbed of their passports and air tickets.

The police told reporters that three of them - Rosa Iris, Luz Maria and Cristina - were forced to work from 10:00pm late into pre-down hours at the Teachers Night Club for US$200 or US$300, denied food during working hours, never saw one cent of their "salary" after three-to-six-month work, and stealing their money.

The fourth victim, Alexandra, told police she paid some US$4,500 to reach Beirut to work as a dancer, and on arriving, was forced to work at the Teachers Club in Jambras.

There, she was told to head for Germany where she worked three months to be able to pay for her return airfare.

According to the police, further investigation is being conducted to to trace other felons involved in the illegal business.
Additionally, the Dominican Republic is statistically the 4th largest exporter of prostitutes in the world behind Brazil, Thailand and the Philippines!!

Dominican Watchdog Note | Human rights organizations estimate in 70,000 the number of women becoming annual statistics as victims of trafficking and as the majority, those Dominicans are kidnapped and forced into prostitution upon arriving at their destination.

At least the DR have something worth exporting, I have never heard of any invention nor internationally successful patent application which came out of the Dom Rep....., That's how it goes when a corrupt government is spending everything on themselves and nothing on education, their women are forced into prostitution to survive!!!!
