Dom Rep sentences couple to 30 years in prison for killing Belgian tourist
timescolonist.com - A court in the Dominican Republic has sentenced a man and woman to 30 years in prison for killing a Belgian retiree who had moved to the Caribbean country.

Prosecutors say it was the maximum potential sentence for 22-year-old Johanna Cristal Aquino and 34-year-old Jesus Maria Jaquez Tejada. The prosecutor's office said in a statement after Thursday's sentencing that the pair killed Luc Vandormael in October 2010 as part of a robbery scheme.

Authorities said Aquino lured the 58-year-old retiree to an apartment north of the capital where she and her companion gave him tea laced with a drug that knocked him out. They then killed and dismembered Vandormael. A third person was acquitted in the case.

Dominican Watchdog Note | This case has not been made public before, so we immediately add another person to our chronologic report of killed tourists in the Dominican Republic.
More worrying is that this happened back in October 2010 without a worth it in the local English press. This makes me wonder if the number of killed investors and tourists maybe is twice as high....? Could 40 have been killed in the last 3 years....?

A You Tube search turned up a family memory video about Luc, he was only 58 when killed in the DR!!!
