El cólera, el dengue, la malaria y la leptospirosis fueron las enfermedades que mayor incidencia tuvieron durante los años 2010 y 2011. 
Cholera, dengue, malaria and leptospirosis were the diseases with the highest incidence in 2010 and 2011.
Asimismo, estas fueron las patologías que registraron mayor número de internamiento y de mortalidad, según el sistema epidemiológico nacional. 
As well, these were the diseases that recorded the highest numbers of hospitalization and deaths, according to the national epidemiological system.
En lo que va de año se han registrado en el paìs  1,587 casos probables de dengue y dos defunciones, pero el año pasado para la misma fecha, el sistema epidemiológico había captado 10,763 casos de dengue y 43 muertes. 
So far this year, the country has recorded 1,587 probable dengue cases and two deaths; last year by this time, the system had recorded 10,763 cases of dengue and 43 deaths.
Desde el año pasado la enfermedad contagiosa que mayor cantidad de internamientos registra es el cólera, con 19,116 casos y 142 defunciones.

Por pobreza.  Esta enfermedad está estrechamente vinculada a la pobreza e insalubridad en que viven amplios segmentos poblacionales y a los flujos migratorios que vienen de la frontera con Haití.

Los años 2010 y 2011 también tuvieron alta incidencia de malaria,  relacionada también con la migración haitiana por la frontera.

Este año han sido confirmados 1,168 casos de la enfermedad, mientras que el año pasado se confirmaron, para el mismo período, unos 1,718 casos de malaria, para una disminución de un 33%, aseguró Rodríguez Aybar. El 33% de los casos de malaria corresponde a la población de inmigrantes haitianos. 
This year, 1,168 cases of the disease have been confirmed, while the same period last year saw some 1,718 cases of malaria--a drop of 33 percent, according to Rodriguez Aybar Hospital. Thirty-three percent of malaria cases were in the Haitian immigrant population.
La rabia.  En lo que va de año se han registrado 19,559 casos de rabia animal, pero el año pasado para la misma fecha ya el sistema había captado 27,699 casos y tres muertes. 
Rabies. So far this year 19,559 cases of animal rabies have been recorded, but this time last year the system recorded 27,699 cases and 3 deaths.
Por las ratas.  La leptospirosis, enfermedad provocada por la orina de la rata sobre alimentos que luego son ingeridos por seres humanos, ha registrado 638 casos y 14 defunciones.
From rats. Leptospirosis, a disease caused by rat urine in food ingested by humans, has caused 638 reported cases and 14 deaths.
